Philosophy of Education

Education is the jumping off point for each student's dreams and successes. The classroom is where the foundation of knowledge and practical skills are built and the best place for students to develop empathy, social skills, and emotional intelligence. It is where students prepare for the real world and become exposed to a wide breadth of knowledge that can ignite their passions. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to create a classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their ideas, making mistakes, and experiencing learning. In building a supportive community, students will understand the limitless possibilities of learning and be excited to step into their stretch zone in order to grow.

I am most successful as a teacher when learning feels like an exciting discovery and an adventure. I will work together with my class to ask thought provoking questions,  uncover new information, and come to conclusions about topics that interest us. In this way, my role in the classroom is to guide student-centered learning and facilitate individualized instruction.  Students will collaborate and dive headfirst into a topic so that they can become immersed in the content. While all children have the capacity to learn and should be treated as such, it is essential that instruction be differentiated to meet specific needs. A student’s growth is directly related to my investment in them as an individual on a path towards success.

In order to achieve this growth and best advocate for my students, I must be patient, energetic, and empathetic. I am not afraid to work exceptionally hard for all of my students and do so with a creative and curious eye. I am always ready and willing to learn new things alongside my students and be flexible to change when an activity doesn’t go as expected. It is my belief that a great teacher isn’t afraid to say, “I don’t know; Let's discover together!” and show that everyone has the chance to learn more. I will bring my passions of music and drama into the classroom to help engage students through different visual and multimodal means. By sharing my interests and making connections with others, we will establish a classroom culture that values respect and promotes a love of learning.
